Materials Connected to Life

By using the twenty gene-encoded amino acids in molecular systems and materials design we ensure that the structures that are discovered can subsequently be integrated with living systems. Applications that we are developing include biodegradable and gene-encodable sensors, mimicks of the biopolymer melanin to provide protective functions, enzyme-responsive materials that respond to a variety of diseased states and cell culture matrices.
