Peptide-Based Systems Chemistry

We propose that in complex mixtures of peptides, characteristics and functions can arise that are both richer and less intuitive as the number of components increase- ultimately resulting in complex systems with emergent properties. This is the regime of complexity that may enable the development of molecular functions that are not accessible using conventional chemistry or synthetic biology approaches. Our methodology includes directed discovery of cooperative functions in complex peptide mixtures including dynamic peptide libraries.
